Think about it. Everything we do has been learned. We may have been born with certain traits, but the majority of our personalities have been learned from our parents and those around us. Look at how you walk, how you speak, the way you act. Have you ever heard the phrase; ‘they’re just like their father'? Sometimes that’s meant in a good way and sometimes in a bad way. The good news is that you have already learned many complicated skills in the past, which means that starting right now, you should be able to learn some equally complex skills going forward.
Perhaps the greatest skill someone can acquire is the ability to learn and adapt to change. The problem is that we all like being comfortable. However, in order to succeed, you need to seek out that weird, uncomfortable feeling from being outside your comfort zone. It’s these daily doses of discomfort that propel you forward. With a little tenacity and dedication, you will begin to see changes. These changes will happen slowly, but most lasting changes are developed over time.
Think of 5 things you are able to do easily, that at one point seemed impossible. Take a minute or two to feel good about what you have already accomplished in life. I bet you never would have thought you could achieve this 5 or 10 years ago.
Now think of 5 things you wish you could do, which seem like they are impossible right now. We’ll call them “Goals.” Seriously! Take 2 minutes to write out the list. Then, beside each goal write one thing you can do that makes you slightly uncomfortable. Rome wasn’t built in a day, so don’t try to do too much too fast. It’s all about doing small and manageable things on a regular basis. Repeat the phrase, “A daily dose of discomfort, will help you reach your dreams”.
